Me in Merkle: Boomerangers - Nancy Reynolds

Me In Merkle: Boomerangers is a series of interviews that showcase the journey and experiences of those who have come back to Merkle. This week we chatted to Nancy Reynolds, Business Director, at Merkle. 

1. Tell us about yourself. Where did you grow up and where do you live now?

I grew up in Berkshire and now live in South East London (slave to the Overground).

2. What was your dream job growing up?

A marine biologist, just because I really liked Dolphins.

3. What is your current role at Merkle?

I’m a Business Director in the Client Management Community (CMC) at Merkle. My role is to steer the direction and drive growth of some of our largest clients at Merkle Media.

4. You’re a boomeranger! What drew you back to Merkle?

I’ve been back at Merkle for four years now. My decision to return to Merkle was largely down to the people here – at every level. The quality and knowledge of the Merkle team is unrivalled, and our senior leadership clearly have their priorities straight by genuinely caring and striving to do the best for us.

5. Tell us a bit more about your day-to-day.

My average day is very varied. A lot of my time is spent with my clients, discussing their objectives and understanding their business challenges. I work closely with Digital and Client Directors in the department to find solutions to these challenges and put plans in place to move our clients in the right direction. The whole department also spends a lot of time learning, be that through training days, show and tell sessions with our partners or just reading!

6. What would your advice be to somebody considering a career in the Client Management Community?

Come with an open mind and be ready to learn a lot, especially from your peers. We all have different skillsets and different challenges on our accounts. Sharing those challenges to learn from each other is what has facilitated the building of such a strong, well-rounded and friendly department! Don’t worry if there’s no readymade solution, part of the fun is figuring it out and setting the template.

7. What do you enjoy most about the Client Management Community and what do you think future developments will be?

What I love most is the culture, both of the CMC and Merkle. I joined as the 5th member of the department, we’re now 26 strong and have managed to maintain that close knit feeling we had at the beginning despite our pace of growth. As a department and agency, we’re putting a lot of thought into what work looks like now with hybrid working the norm, and how we can sustain our fantastic culture alongside that. In the work we do for clients we’re always evolving and adapting how we approach the challenges posed to us by brands, which goes hand in hand with the changing world we find ourselves in – I expect these to be the two greatest areas of development for us over the next few years.

8. What is your greatest accomplishment at Merkle?

Taking on the leadership of one of our largest accounts in media – there are new challenges every day and as a team we’ve learnt a huge amount.

9. What do you love about Merkle’s workplace culture?

Culture is bandied about a lot in our industry. Merkle is one of the few that genuinely care about the culture of the business and the environment we all work in. I’m proud that Merkle fosters a truly supportive environment that listens to their employees and nurtures them to be their best selves.

  • What animal would you be and why? Deferring to the wisdom of Buzzfeed, I’m an Octopus – intellectual, perceptive, and strategic.
  • What are you currently watching on Netflix/Prime? Always return to Somebody Feed Phil but don’t watch it if you’re hungry.
  • What’s your guilty pleasure? There are no guilty pleasures, but I’ll say peanut butter straight from the jar.
  • What is your dream holiday destination? Any Greek Island that can consistently deliver sun, sea and Tzatziki.

11. Best advice or mantra you live by?

Sleep on it, things always look better in the morning.
