Turn Insight into Action: Close the Gaps That Stall Growth

Insight is now cheap and fast. Growth still stalls, because most organizations cannot act on a signal in time or explain why customers behave as they do.

Organizations have never had access to more data, more intelligence tools, or more analytical firepower. Generative AI made insight abundant, fast, and cheap. Yet many organizations find growth plateauing, and the return on data investment harder to defend in board conversations.

That’s because systems were never built for the speed at which insight now has to become action. Handoffs sit between research teams and marketing teams. Approval layers sit between analytics outputs and campaign execution. Silos sit between experience platforms, CRM systems, and media activation tools.

The organizations willing to rethink how their teams work together will find opportunity others miss.

Success depends on closing two gaps

To move from insight to revenue impact, organizations need to address two distinct, interdependent areas.

  • The activation gap. A signal is analyzed, briefed, approved, and acted on over several weeks. By then, the customer has churned, switched, or quietly disengaged, leading to lost revenue.

  • The understanding gap. Behavioral and operational data describes patterns. It doesn’t explain motivations, barriers, unmet needs, or the emotional drivers behind loyalty and defection. Personalization doesn't land because it's based on what the customer did instead of why they did it.

Closing both gaps helps analytical investment pay off. If you close just one, you’ll either get speed without direction or understanding that arrives late.

Experience signals: from data to decision

A customer rates a post-purchase experience four out of ten. The signal enters a pipeline, lands in a monthly report, gets reviewed in a quarterly business review, and triggers a service improvement six months later. The signal arrived, but by the time someone took action, the insights were already stale.

Net Promoter Score (NPS) tracking tells the chief experience officer (CXO) that satisfaction dropped in a segment or at a touchpoint. It signals the problem, but addressing the cause requires deeper understanding. So instead, programs often fix symptoms with new scripts, redesigned web flows, or extra touchpoints. The score improves, but churn doesn’t.

What changes the outcome is a shift in how insight connects to action. Connectivity happens in hours instead of months. Root cause research digs into emotional drivers and unmet expectations. Predictive models flag defection risk before a customer complains. And measurement ties experience spend to retention and revenue.

The insights function: from disconnected to credible

Surveys, focus groups, and segmentation studies get framed as slow, expensive, and disconnected from the decisions that drive performance. The insights function risks being repositioned from strategic asset to support service.

Structured research hasn’t lost value. The timing requirement has just shifted. A research cycle measured in weeks cannot compete with data that’s already in the room when decisions get made.

Too often, rigorous research ends up in a SharePoint folder while the marketing team runs the campaign it had already planned. Research that never reaches operational systems informs conversation, but it doesn’t drive action.

Insights leaders need always-on listening. They need outputs that flow into CRM and the systems that act on them. They need AI that speeds up the work, without cutting methodological rigor, and they need proof of value in revenue, churn, or risk avoided.

What closes the loop

Analytics firms have gone after activation lag. CX platforms have gone after the signal-to-service loop. Research agencies have gone after turnaround time. Most solve one dimension and leave the rest in a silo.

Closing the loop takes four capabilities working together, not one solved in isolation.

  • Qualtrics as an operational signal system, not a survey platform. Merkle is a Qualtrics Elite Partner, and experience data feeds CRM triggers, contact center alerting, and personalization engines.

  • Market research designed for connectivity. Continuous listening, AI-assisted design and synthesis, and outputs are structured to be machine-readable and API-connected from day one.

  • AI that speeds up synthesis and automates routine activation. This removes the human bottleneck where activation most often fails.

  • Your performance against the market. Dentsu data connects the same customer across channels for one clean view and benchmarks you against the market so you can tell whether a shift is yours alone or industry-wide.

The programs that pay off set commercial KPIs up front, then measure against revenue, retention, and NPS movement rather than reports published.

The next step

As more organizations build closed-loop capability, early movers gain the advantage. The time to move is before that convergence, not after.
