About the job

Overview

The Senior Project Manager is an experienced delivery professional who combines effective project execution with emerging leadership capabilities. You'll independently manage complex, multi-disciplinary projects whilst acting as a mentor and advisor to less experienced team members. This is a role that balances hands-on delivery excellence with building team capability and deepening your commercial understanding of delivery.

What You'll Be Working With

You have 5+ years of project management experience and are ready to take on greater complexity and leadership responsibility. As a Senior Project Manager, you bridge solid execution with delivery leadership. You work on projects that require advanced experience beyond the scope of a Project Manager, and you serve as a trusted advisor within project teams for delivery excellence.

You demonstrate:

  • Advanced capability across most project management disciplines, with sophisticated skills in Planning & Scheduling, Resource Management, and Stakeholder Management.
  • The ability to design delivery approaches for complex, multi-disciplinary projects with technical integration requirements.
  • Pattern recognition developed through experience—you identify issues early and implement solutions that benefit from years of learning.
  • Growing commercial awareness through exposure to P&L management, forecasting, and business case development.
  • Natural mentoring and coaching abilities that develop the capability of your Project manager and Project coordinator colleagues.
  • You're developing your capabilities whilst delivering exceptional results at your current level.

Core Responsibilities

Manage Complex Projects: Take responsibility for delivering larger, more complex projects from start to finish. Coordinate scope, schedule, budget, risk, and quality effectively. Navigate ambiguity and sophistication in projects that require advanced experience.

Delivery Excellence: Set standards for delivery quality within your project teams. Your experience enables you to anticipate issues, make informed decisions efficiently, and work with complexity with composure. You provide steady guidance that others rely on.

Team Leadership & Mentoring: Actively mentor and coach less experienced colleagues. Share knowledge generously, provide guidance on delivery situations, and invest in developing team capability. You set examples and motivate others to deliver great work.

Client Partnership: Build and maintain client relationships independently with escalation support available when needed. Build trust through consistent delivery, proactive communication, and the capability to navigate difficult conversations when projects need course correction.

Commercial Exposure: Partner with Delivery Leads & Client Managers to understand project economics. Manage budgets with increasing autonomy, contribute to forecasting and business case development, and make decisions that balance quality with financial reality.

Delivery Approach Design: Design and implement delivery approaches for complex, multi-disciplinary projects. Address technical integration requirements, coordinate multi-workstream programmes, and ensure governance frameworks are fit-for-purpose.

Advanced Planning & Resource Coordination: Apply sophisticated skills in managing complex project schedules, dependencies, and resource allocations. Map critical paths across multiple workstreams, resolve bottlenecks, and maintain efficient delivery progress.

Strategic Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders. Work with influence and expectations skillfully, resolve conflicts proactively, and ensure alignment across diverse interest groups and organisational boundaries.

Risk & Issue Leadership: Identify and mitigate risks with pattern recognition developed through experience. Your background enables you to spot potential issues before they materialise and implement solutions efficiently.

Knowledge Sharing: Contribute to the broader Delivery Management capability through collaborative leadership. Share lessons learned, champion best practices, and help shape how the team approaches delivery situations.

What Success Looks Like

  • Your projects consistently deliver on time, on budget, and to high quality—clients and colleagues trust your judgment completely.
  • Your less-experienced colleagues actively seek your guidance and grow in capability through your mentoring.
  • You work on sophisticated projects requiring advanced experience, and you coordinate them effectively.
  • Client Service colleagues see you as a reliable partner who strengthens client relationships and makes their work easier.
  • You're demonstrating growth through your delivery experience, commercial awareness, and leadership presence.
  • Team members describe you as someone who brings clarity to complexity and builds confidence when delivery becomes demanding.

Who You Are

  • Experienced delivery professional: You have 5+ years in project/programme delivery, with proven success managing complex digital projects across multiple disciplines.
  • Developed delivery experience: Your background means you recognise patterns and risks efficiently. You know what questions to ask and when to escalate versus address issues at your level.
  • Effective mentor: You genuinely enjoy helping others grow. You share knowledge generously and invest time in building capability across the team.
  • Skilled with complexity: You work effectively with technically sophisticated, multi-workstream projects. You bring structure and clarity to ambiguous situations.
  • Methodologically knowledgeable: Proficient working knowledge of Agile, Waterfall, or Hybrid methodologies. You adapt your approach to project needs rather than applying frameworks rigidly.
  • Commercially aware: You're building your understanding of project economics, P&L management, and business case development. You make decisions with commercial implications in mind.
  • Collaborative leader: You guide through experience and expertise rather than authority. People follow your guidance because they trust your judgment and background.
  • Growth-oriented: You're progressing toward Delivery Lead responsibilities and actively developing the capabilities to succeed at the next level.
