Merkle EMEA Takes Diversity and Innovation Honours At Data IQ Awards 2018

Merkle, a leading technology-enabled, data-driven performance marketing agency, has been recognised as an industry leader in diversity and innovation, winning two prestigious Data IQ Awards.

The team from Merkle Aquila, took the honours for Best Diversity Data Programme and Most Innovative Data Management Solution, beating off stiff competition in both categories to take the coveted titles.

In the Best Diversity Data Programme, the judges were impressed with the different approach Merkle Aquila takes to talent acquisition to attract the broadest mix of applicants.

Among its team of 95 analysts and data practitioners, there are 21 different nationalities represented, and even more languages spoken. Whilst the main business language is English, it is not unusual to hear French, Polish and Greek commonly used with some interviews taking place bi-lingually. As a result, retention is high and - unusually for the industry - there is a 55% female/45% male split. 

The judges said: “We all know how hard it is to attract great talent and that many candidates are put off by recruitment ads that are too specific or tech-oriented. Merkle Aquila appears to have found a better balance and is enjoying the results.”

The judging panel were also wowed by Merkle Aquila’s innovation on a major project with Total E&P UK, the country’s leading producer of oil and gas.

Merkle Aquila built an integrated data platform to cope with high volumes of data as the company transformed to a data-driven organisation, which has since been rolled-out across the UK business.

The complex project, delivered by the team in just nine months, won high praise from the judges, who said: “This is a remarkable solution for its scope and ambition which is now serving as a blueprint for a step change across the business globally.”
