With the new version of Android 11, Google also launched the New beta of Google play console for all the developers. Let’s understand together what more can the new console offer us.
Even though the new play console is live we can still access the classic dashboard at https://play.google.com/apps/publish/, thus you can switch and play between the two for now.
Before starting let us take a walkthrough about what you can do with the new Google play console in this video:

What’s new in the Design?
The new design of play console is easier, responsive and more informative. It is more insightful and will help you to build a high-quality app. The dashboard is more concise and simpler to understand. It offers in-depth information in visual style. The Navigation menu has been revamped to give a better user experience by grouping the related features.

Newly Revamped Statistics Section:
We can now get more data and insights related to “Revenue”. We can still see the majority of the metrics offered by Classic Google play console, like acquired new users, users lost, average rating, ANRs, etc. Additionally, with the new console, we can identify higher revenue in the metrics list quickly and get monetization details like financial reports, etc.

Android Vitals
The Android Vitals is one of the major essential element for an app, as it most effectively shows the overall performance of the app. They are strongly taken into consideration by Google Play to provide visibility to the app, both in the Search as well as in Browse. Thus, you can see in the new beta version of the console how crucial the Android Vitals are for Google Play. Also, as the new metrics were added to the main screen with more detailed information about the Opening time of the app, Rendering, Battery, Stability, and Permits.

User Acquisition analysis
One of the most frequently changed section is the User Acquisition tab. There has been an improvement in the User Acquisition tab as you can see how it changed through defined periods (day, month, week) as well as to the availability of custom date range selection.
Another major enhancement has been done with regards to the unification of the traffic sources. Until now, the traffic sources were divided into Play Store (Search and Browse), Google Ads Campaigns, Tracked channels (UTM), Google Search & External references. But now in the new beta version, only 3 traffic sources can be seen: Search, Explore, and third-party references.

Installs per keyword
Let us talk about this separately as there has been an upgrade in the part of user Acquisition section. For Search traffic earlier, Classic Play Console provided us with a list of words without any granular data about visits, installs, or retention for keywords globally.
Whereas in the new beta version, we can see various filters added that enables us to see which keywords are generating traffic based on the Download status of the app (new users as well as recurrent users), Language or Country. This allows us to dig deeper into the data and identify keywords that are generating more traffic.

Play Store Listing
The design and appearance of the new “Play Store Listing principal” have also changed. Earlier the visualization of the screenshots was customized via tabs, now you can scroll through them in a combination of 4 + 4. Additionally, various multimedia like “TV Banners”, “Wear OS”, “stereoscopic image” and other visuals, can be displayed if the APK is compatible with the respective devices.

Classic Google Play Console vs New Google Play console Beta
Let’s take a quick look at the differentiating factors of the Classic and new beta versions of Google Play console:

* We see a discrepancy between data from the classic console and the new console, likely due to treating new users differently. E.g. 1) The sum of Tracked channels (UTM) and Third-party referrers. 2)Third-party referrals, likely due to differences to treat new acquisitions.
** Considering the user journey, users from Google Search should arrive in the app’s store listing on the Play Store.
Ready to Grow Your App?
With this new update in the dashboard, the Google Play console aims at offering developers and marketers a more delightful way to find, discover & understand the characteristics to be managed for their apps or games.
We do follow this evolution of the Google play console being done regularly based on the feedback of the app, marketing specialists and app developers. We also expect a few more changes in the Beta until we see the final version.
